Leopard Spots:932g
Hi everybody!
Well, the title isn’t about Baby Jade today.. at least not the first part. I came home today to find poor Theresa all spotty and speckled. When she was in the hospital they gave her a Rubella immunization (Measles) because hers had apparently worn off. Well, looks like it gave her spots.. everywhere. Doctor said it’s not contagious because the shot they give you isn’t actually Measles… but she said it was probably better for her not to go see Jade while she still had the rash. Poor girl.
So I went to see Jade last night. Things were pretty good. The nurses got a few X-Rays done for her the past couple days because she had been breathing quite shallow and her blood work indicated she had low blood-gas (I think) They were looking for an infection or anything like that but didn’t find anything bad… just her lungs were still a little underdeveloped. So, they’ve put her on “high-flow” oxygen to make sure she gets enough (she was on “Low flow” before). She’s still breathing all on her own though. She has a few Apneas (stops breathing) everyday along with a few “Bradys” (heart rate drops below 100bpm.. usual rate is 140-170). That’s basically what keeps her in the hospital, once she is able to go a couple days without having an Apnea, and of course she can breast feed, then they’ll send her home.
She’s 932g eating 19ml of breast milk (or formula if they’re out of Moms milk) per feeding.
I changed her diaper last night.. I’m much better at it now I think… it didn’t look like she was wearing a toga when I was done. I rubbed a little olive oil on her skin where she had dry bits.
That’s about it.. I took a picture of her because she had her eyes open. But then I just went home to take care of T.
Talk to you soon!

New Math!: 902g
Ok. So we better clear one thing up. Turns out 2000g is actually 4lbs 7oz.. NOT 3lbs!
We looked at the conversion chart again today and realized our error… duh. We suck.
In other news. Jade officially broke the 2 pound barrier yesterday! Hooray! She went all the way up to 918g but today she settled back down to 902g… nothing serious… still happily growing and eating and breathing.
She’s been on a little more oxygen lately, somewhere between 30-40%, more than we’d like really but hey, considering her progress how can we complain! As long as she keeps growing and kicking (and filling her diapers) then we’re super happy!
We’ve been getting lots of one on one time with Jade which has been really nice… Theresa has got lots of kangaroo time including today when Jade was all squirmy wirmy.
That’s about it again though. Jade is taking lots of breast milk, she doesn’t know how to swallow yet, so they’re still feeding her through a tiny tube into her stomach… but that’ll probably change in a week or two.
She’s 16 days old today… I can’t believe it!
Oh ya! Last weekend my Dad and Step mom got to come over and visit Theresa and I and Jade. Much fun was had by all and the new Grandpa and Grandma got to see their Grand Daughter! For those who might not know, my Dad is Spanish (born in Spain even!) and in Spanish Yaya and Yayo is Grandma and Grandpa.
Also, when we were looking for names for the baby and found Jade we found out it’s of Spanish origin… didn’t seem quite right to us, and it was a surprise to my Dad too… but it certainly is cool. So, in Spanish, “Jade” would be pronounced “Ha-day”.
Cool huh!
So, I uploaded pictures of (Ha-day) and Yaya and Yayo… hope you enjoy them!
Seeya!

Originals Online
Hi again,
I’m uploading a zip file (an archive) that contains the originals of all the pictures I’ve posted of Jade.
I was going to upload an original of each individual picture but it would just take up too much space, so I have to do the zip file. There will be a link to the originals on the left hand side as well as in the post.
It’s 54MB download so it’ll could take up to 20 minutes to download on High Speed and and hour on dialup.

Happy Long Weekend!: 874g
Hi everyone!
Hope you’re all enjoying your weekend. After a rainy day yesterday it cleared up in the evening and today it’s warm and sunny!
Everyone is doing great here. Theresa is feeling better and better. Soon her stomach will be healed, or at least comfortable.
Jade is doing great too! We went in on Friday night and couldn’t figure where she was. She had been moved to Level II! We get to hold her everyday now for at least 30 minutes but usually closer to 45 or 60min. Both Theresa and I have been able to hold her. It’s been really nice.
Jades breathing has been good. Not too many Apneas and she’s been correcting herself most of the time when she forgets to breath. She’s eating 18ml of breast milk (through a tube to her stomach) every 3 hours now. Theresa is trying her best to keep up. It’s pretty amazing how well she’s been doing. Every nurse remarks on how strong she seems to be and how healthy she is. She’s a lot more active now when she’s awake. She moves her hands and arms a little and squeeks and opens her eyes and seems to try to look around.
She has blue eyes. At least for now. You can just barely make out the color.
I think that’s about all. We’ve been having a nice weekend. Saw some friends and my Dad and Step-mom are coming to visit tonight and tomorrow.
Enjoy the new pictures and the rest of your weekend!
Chris
